Firstly apologies to all followers of the column after I was unable to post my selections on the site last week. As it turned out I would have been best served staying put thus avoiding a fruitless outing to Musselburgh races!!

Previously however we did enjoy another good week with the main bets Dundee United and Falkirk both hacking up and more than making up for a small loss on Queen Of The South.

I don’t see a whole lot on a tricky card this week and am going to keep things tight. Here’s what I’m going with.

*All bets measured to a 1-5pt stake. (5 is max stake)

Premier League

Motherwell v Celtic Friday 7.45pm (editor note – This article was received on Thursday and I failed to realise the Celtic game was on Fri)
Advised Bet: Celtic-1 Asian Hcap – 2pts, 1.87

The Hoops no longer have the distraction of European competition and can focus solely on the domestic campaign. I expect them to embark on a strong run with last week’s 7-0 demolition of Hearts acting as a catalyst for some impressive showings.

Celtic have overcome a one goal handicap in four of their last seven away matches and now they no real cause to worry about a midweek European game I expect those stats to improve further.

Motherwell are a slightly above average SPL team but will be reeling after being knocked out of the cup by League Two club Albion Rovers last week.

Well manager Stuart McCall rated this result the worst of his career and felt humiliated by the result. The players can’t be feeling much better either and the visit of the champions is probably the last thing the Steelmen need this weekend. Well too have struggled against the better sides in the league and have lost 4-0 to Dundee Utd and 2-0 to ten men Aberdeen in recent home matches.

Dundee United v Hearts – 3.00pm
Advised Bet: Dundee Utd -1.25 and -2.5 Asian Hcap  – 2pts and 1pt, evens and 27/10

United are the hottest team in the country at present and I fear again for this young Hearts team this weekend. The Arabs are scoring for fun at the moment with 23 goals scored in their last seven games one of which was at Celtic.

Their attacking quartet of Armstrong, Gauld, Mackay-Steven and Ciftci has destroyed opposition defences of late and I would be very surprised if this vulnerable Hearts side could keep them out this weekend. It’s not just the attacking players who are scoring, left back Andrew Robertson is weighing in with a few goals too which is a fantastic position for United to have as they charge up the league table.

As mentioned Hearts were thrashed 7-0 by Celtic last week and Tannadice is the last venue the Jambos would want to visit in their next game. They have struggled on the road this season winning only one (against ten men Aberdeen) and I’m very confident that this will be a comfortable home win for the red hot arabs.

Happy punting this weekend.
