Everton V Stoke City

Ronald Koeman has started life at Goodison Park in positive fashion, and will be expecting his side to take their tally to seven points from nine against Stoke. However, the Toffees might not have things all their own way on the road to sweet success.

The new boss is still in the process of clearing up Roberto Martinez’s defensive mess, and has seen his side concede in both league outings so far. That should afford confidence to Mark Hughes’s visitors, who have scored in both games despite registering just one point.

Stoke do have some talented players, but Everton have started the new campaign with a swagger. With Romelu Lukaku back, Ross Barkley scoring goals, and Kevin Mirallas looking like his old self, goals shouldn’t be an issue for the Toffees at home.

All four league games involving these teams have ended in BTTS winners, and we can’t see that ending here. But while the Potters have enjoyed a good recent history at Goodison Park, we’re backing Everton to prevail.

Barnsley V Rotherham United

In the Championship, a South Yorkshire derby will have fans extremely excited at Oakwell, where newly promoted Barnsley will be looking to make it three home wins on the bounce as they take on struggling Rotherham.

Paul Heckingbottom’s Tykes have scored five goals in two home games, and will fancy their chances of more against a poor away side. With Elliot Lee, Sam Winnall, and Tom Bradshaw in attack, Barnsley are more than capable of notching two or three against the Millers.

Despite the changes in the dugout and on the pitch, it already looks like being another long season for the visitors. Last weekend’s home win against Brentford can provide some momentum, though, which can see Alan Stubbs’s side score against a defence that has leaked eight times in just four games.

Unfortunately for the travelling fans, though, Barnsley are likely to capitalise on Rotherham’s poor defence. We expect goals, and a home win.

York City V Woking

York’s start to life in the Conference National hasn’t exactly gone swimmingly, and promotion back to the Football League already looks a long way off for Jackie McNamara’s men. However, the Minstermen can at least restore a little confidence by registering an important three points here.

The hosts have picked up just five points from five matches, but that’s a lot better than Woking’s pathetic return of one point. Garry Hill has seen his side decimated over the summer, and the Cardinals could be destined for a relegation scrap. On a brighter note for the visitors, they have at least scored in four of those five league outings.

Even if they do score at Bootham Crescent, they’re unlikely to keep out a home side that has scored in each of it’s matches this term. York will be looking specifically to star man Richard Brodie for inspiration, and the hosts are more than capable of punishing the poor away defence.

Goals are a common feature for both of these sides, and we don’t expect that to change. However, given that Woking have less fight in them than bloke that got sparked in about 10 seconds at UFC 202, we have to fancy a York City victory.
