We’re limited on our choice of league football this week during the international break so I’m going deeper than I’ve ever been before into the pits of British football to find some bets.
Let’s see if we can find a winner on this weeks’ Team Goals Treble.
Stockport vs Worcester City
We start in the Conference North as Stockport host Worcester City at Edgeley Park. Only 5 years ago Stockport finished rock bottom of League One and what followed has been the speedy demise of a club who now play their football 3 leagues below that.
In 2010 Stockport were playing against the likes of Southampton and Norwich, both of course now Premier League sides, yet today they face off against Worcester City and yet still pull in average attendances of 3000-3500 fans per week. I’m relying on those home fans cheering Stockport to a few goals this week against a pretty poor Worcester outfit. The home side sit 4th in the Conference North at the moment with just 1 loss from 7 games, a very decent start for Neil Young’s (not that one) men.
They’ve scored in 6 of their 7 games this season and got a very decent win last weekend away at Fylde, a side who narrowly missed out on promotion last season. They grabbed 3 goals in that game and in that kind of goalscoring form they shouldn’t have too many problems finding the net against Worcester who have the worst defensive record in the league after 7 games.
The visitors have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their games this season and come into this game at Stockport following 4 consecutive losses, a run in which they have conceded an average of 3 goals per game. This will be their 3rd visit to Edgeley Park and the knowledge that they have suffered 4-0 and 2-0 defeats on their previous 2 visits also can’t be a great confidence booster for Carl Heeley’s men. Backing Stockport to find a couple of goals here looks to be an absolute banker for me.
BET: Stockport Over 1.5 Team Goals at 8/15
Scunthorpe vs Blackpool
It’s pretty hard not to back Blackpool to concede a few goals this weekend. Yes, it’s a shame what’s happened and what is still happening to this club, but it doesn’t mean I’m not willing to profit from it!
Blackpool seem to be heading for another relegation this season and although it’s very early days to be making those kind of assumptions, 1 point from their opening 5 league games doesn’t exactly spell success. In 6 games in all competitions, Blackpool have conceded 2 or more goals in every game, their biggest defeat coming last weekend at home against league leaders Walsall, going down 0-4.
This weekend they travel to Glanford Park to face a Scunthorpe side who haven’t exactly been firing on all cylinders this season, but still have enough class to stick it to Blackpool in my eyes.
Scunny found the net in the week against Barnsley and scored 2 in their last league game away at Colchester which suggests to me that the goals are starting to come now for Mark Robins’ side. It will be the first meeting between the two clubs in 5 years, and I can’t see it being pretty for the visitors.
BET: Scunthorpe Over 1.5 Team Goals at 4/6
Barrow vs Eastleigh
My final pick comes from the Conference as the leagues’ worst defence host the leagues’ joint 2nd best attack. Barrow haven’t found life easy in a higher league so far and have collected only 7 points from their 7 games this season, collecting only 2 wins and also keeping only 1 clean sheet.
That clean sheet came against a struggling Southport side in their last game here at Holker Street but this weekend they face an Eastleigh side who are flying high in the Conference this term. The visitors have scored an average of 2 goals per game this season and sit 2nd in the league. They’re yet to taste defeat after 7 games, have scored in all 7 matches and have scored 2 or more goals in all 3 of their away games this season as well.
They come into this fixture on the back of 3 wins and all of those were against no mugs. A 1-0 home win over Macclesfield was followed by a 1-2 away win at Aldershot and to top that off, they won 3-2 against Torquay last weekend.
Given the gulf in class between the two sides this season I simply have to snap up the bet on Eastleigh to find the net a couple of times.
BET: Eastleigh Over 1.5 Team Goals at 11/10
A £20 bet on the treble returns £107
