Mansfield Town v Bury – 7.45pm Tuesday
Both teams to score odds – 10/11 – BetVictor
Mansfield and Bury face off here, and will both be looking over their shoulder, concerned that they could face relegation to the Conference if they go on some sort of torrid run from now until the end of the season. Bury are in more treacherous waters, and are just seven points above Torquay United who are on 29 points in 23rd. Mansfield are nine points above the drop and Bury would go above them if this finishes with an away win.
Mansfield have turned their season round recently after they looked like they were heading for a relegation battle. The Stags have lost only once in six games and the vibe around the club is far more positive since they have made themselves much harder to beat. Morale will likely be at a season high, after a weekend victory over Fleetwood who are aiming for a campaign ending with promotion.
Bury too are in much better shape than they were, having lost just the once in nine games where they have picked up a terrific four wins. Seven of their last nine away games have seen the Shakers find the back of the net and they will be looking to this tie as one they can win to really get them out of trouble. Bury beat AFC Wimbledon 1-0 away from home over the weekend and with that added confidence I can see them scoring here.
Preston v Rotherham – 7.45pm Tuesday
Both teams to score odds – 5/6 – BetVictor
This is a cracking match up in League One as these two sides really are on good form at the moment, both teams come in on the back of victories over the weekend after two 2-1 wins. Preston won their tie away at Colchester United and Rotherham came from behind the beat Carlisle United at Brunton Park to stretch their unbeaten run to seven. I am struggling to split these two, and with good reason. Read on…
Preston’s good run has seen them remain unbeaten for seven games as well and the Lilywhites have been up amongst the favourite for promotion all season and rightly so. They are currently in fourth place, just three points above Rotherham who sit one place lower but Preston are only seven points from top spot and a good run from now until the end of the season could see them clinch an automatic spot with a Play off place a minimum expectation. This will be a close game but one where Preston should at least score.
What makes this a terrific tie, is that even though Preston are favourites for the three points, Rotherham have a quite terrific away record and have won their last three on their travels. Another win here against high flying Preston may be too much to ask but i expect them to score. The Millers have only failed to find the back of the net twice this season away from home and have scored in each of their last eight games. BTTS has landed in all of their last five games and I can see the same result here.
Galatasaray v Chelsea – 7.45pm Wednesday
Both teams to score odds – 39/40 – BetVictor
What a romantic tale as Chelsea legend Didier Drogba gets to play against his old club in this Champions League tie- the same competition that the Ivorian achieved cult status at Stamford Bridge as his successful penalty verses Bayern Munich in the final two years ago won the London club their first European Cup.
This is also an opportunity for Roberto Mancini to pit his wits once more verses a Premier League outfit. The former Manchester City manager remains rather bitter since his Etihad exit at the end of last season and will be leaving no stone unturned in his preparation to make a statement.
Surely it is written in the stars that Didier Drogba will find the back of the net on Wednesday evening. Istanbul is a tough place to come for any side in the world and even though Chelsea are expected to win, they are unlikely to have it all their own way. In the Group stages Galatasaray managed to knock out Juventus which tell you all you need to know about the capabilities of this side.
Chelsea go in as favourites and rightfully so since Jose Mourinho has really got the Group E winners, playing some winning football. Not only that, but morale must be high after a late winner from John Terry over the weekend left Everton leaving the capital on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat. Chelsea may be left looking silly after letting Romelu Lukaku and Daniel Sturridge go in recent times as the London club are left without a prolific goal scorer but the Blue have goals in Oscar, Frank Lampard and Eden Hazard.
