Bolton v Watford – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 8/11 – SkyBet
Bolton are hanging on in there after a score draw last weekend at Millwall which coincidently we included in our treble seven days ago. Boom. The pressure from the fans continues on Bolton to perform and the challenge of Watford making the trip to the Reebok is not an easy one.
Bolton haven’t tasted success in nine games which means a game in front of their home crowd is the perfect time to end their appalling run and give the supporters something to cheer about after some dreary and calamitous performances of late. Relegation is still a worry as just six points separate the Trotters in 19th and Charlton in 22nd. On the road, Watford have failed in win in their last nine attempts and Bolton will be looking to take advantage of that and should at least score a goal.
Watford are just nine points from a Play Off place and a good run of results from now until the end of the season may see the Hornets grab one of those positions. A win here against a struggling Bolton will have to be a matter of turning up if they are to seek promotion this season. Wanderers have conceded in each of their last nine games and in all but one of their matches at the Reebok this season. I can see an away win.
Barnsley v Millwall – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 8/11 – SkyBet
One of the biggest fixtures left in both sides calendars for the rest of the season. The pair are fighting for survival and are now coming head to head at Oakwell. Maximum points for either side will be worth their weight in gold and even more so as it is against a rival for the drop.
A win for Barnsley will bring them within two points of their opponents and may well mean everything, come the end of the season. It should be treated as a Cup final and Oakwell will need to be a fortress to give them the best opportunity to survive another season in the Championship. The Tykes have gained almost three quarters of their 23 points at home and will need to build on that here to give them hope. A goal should be the minimum for the Tykes here.
Millwall cannot afford to lose here and offer Barnsley the chance to play catch up. Under manager Ian Holloway, results have yet to improve with no win in 11 away game and a relegation battle looks very much on the cards for the Lions. I can see this being a thriller as both sides need to get some sort of result and a goal for either side will really lure the other out to get an equaliser which should leave us with goals galore. Barnsley have only kept a clean sheet twice all season at home and I cannot see that changing after Millwall visit on Saturday.
Notts County v Shrewsbury Town – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds- 5/6 – SkyBet
A clash between two sides guaranteed to be involved in the relegation scrap until the end of the season. Currently occupying relegation places in League One, this is what all good (and bad) pundits like to describe as a “six pointer” as Notts County make the trip to Shrewsbury.
Notts County are in a dismal situation in the bottom four but reading into enough match reports they try to play football the right way and with a bit more luck they would be in a much higher position. I expect the Magpies to register a win here as i see them as a better side than Shrewsbury however in big clashes at the bottom- it could easily go the other way. County get more positive results at home as they showed last time with a 3-0 win against Coventry and I can see a home win again here.
An away win for Shrewsbury could see them escape the relegation zone and lift them from the worrying position of 23rd if results with Sheffield United, Crawley and Crewe go their way. A defeat may well see manager Mike Jackson sacked after he has seen his side struggle for too long. I think the Blue’s will put on the pressure and go for maximum points and record that goal we are after. Six of their last seven away games have seen both teams score and I can see this market being fulfilled once more.
