Cardiff City v Liverpool – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 7/10 with BetVictor
Both sides have plenty riding on this fixture at opposite ends of the League with Cardiff fighting to escape from the bottom three and Liverpool now mounting a title challenge as we come into the final stages of the season.
Cardiff will be having to rely on results both home and away from now until the rest of the season but realistically it will be results at the Cardiff City Stadium that will determine the Welsh club’s fate. Three quarters of Cardiff’s points have been earned at home and the Bluebirds will see this as an opportunity to pick up at least a point as they have done so against other “big” clubs at home including Manchester City and Manchester United earlier on in the season. With so much on the line I can see Solskjaer’s side getting at least a goal.
Liverpool have been talked up all week as title challengers after their 3-0 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford which increased their winning run to five in a row. It is hard to argue with their supporters with all of the attacking flair that has been on show this season but it is time to reinforce their message to Chelsea and Manchester City by winning in Wales. In the league, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez have scored 43 goals between them this season, and will be confident of adding to that tally against struggling Cardiff after last Sunday’s win. Morale will be sky high so I can see goals for the Pool.
Peterborough v Rotherham – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 13/20 with BetVictor
Barring any miraculous collapses, both of these sides should grab a Play Off place which would make this tie a dress rehearsal for the Semi Final or even Final in May. Peterborough occupy 6th and visitors Rotherham lie one place higher in 5th and know a victory could see them move up further if Preston lose over the weekend.
Peterborough registered a vital three points over MK Dons away from home in their last game which helped develop a six point gap between them and Karl Robinson’s side and along with a game in hand, they should be fine for a Play Off place but a win here would help finalise that. In Assombalonga they have the division’s top scorer with 19 and with the side from London Road scoring 58 goals in total so far this season, finding the net isn’t a problem. After winning their biggest match of the season against MK Dons last weekend, confidence will certainly be high enough to see the Posh score.
Rotherham have been quite simply awesome this season and deserve an opportunity for promotion which the Play offs allow and here against Peterborough they will be testing their credentials. Their away record is the third best in the league having won 11 of the 18 games as well as scoring a huge 31 goals along the way. The Millers current run has seen them undefeated on the road for 12 matches and I just cannot see them losing here. With many goal scorers among the ranks including Kieran Agard, a goal will surely be a given.
Brentford v Coventry City – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 31/40 with BetVictor
Brentford are battling it out with both Leyton Orient and Wolves for the League One title as well as two of those much heralded automatic promotion places. Each and every week brings a must win game with just three points between the sides. Coventry could have been fighting it out for a Play Off place in this game if they hadn’t of had their points deduction at the start of the season but have been recording some strong victories all season despite all of the problems they have faced off the field.
Brentford are showing no signs of slowing down and at Griffin Park their record is 14 wins from 18 and it would take a very special performance from Coventry to come away with anything from the tie. Seven of their last eight home games have seen the Bees score two goals or more and I cannot see them slipping up on Saturday as both players and fans can almost taste promotion.
Coventry are usually very good for a goal and it is no surprise when they have Calum Wilson and Franck Moussa among their ranks who have scored 31 goals between them this season which is a huge number. Almost three quarters of the Sky Blue’s matches have seen three or more goals and away from home they have failed to score just twice. I think they will go down to defeat today against second placed Brentford but can see them getting a goal.
