Blackpool V Brentford

It’s been a truly horrendous start to the campaign for Blackpool both on and off the field but the Tangerines will be hopeful of securing their first points of the season as they welcome Brentford to Bloomfield Road.

Problems for the Tangerines have been well documented in recent weeks and it is widely accepted that Jose Riga’s men are on a hiding to nothing. However, they did show glimpses of promise during the weekend defeat to Blackburn and the hosts can be quietly confident as they entertain the Bees.

Newly promoted Brentford have hardly sparkled as they adjust to life in a higher division but Mark Warburton’s side should at least find the net at Bloomfield Road. The Bees were involved in that incredible 6-6 draw in the Capital One Cup this time last week and, whilst a similar scoreline is virtually impossible, there is reason to believe that both teams will score here.

Neither side boasts a particularly strong defence and both sides are tethered by the fact they each seek their first wins of the Championship campaign. It’s a difficult game to predict the outcome of – either way, the fans should be treated to plenty of goals.

Bournemouth V Nottingham Forest

Staying in the Championship and both Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are looking to continue their strong starts to the campaign as the two promotion-chasers collide at Dean Court.

Eddie Howe’s Cherries were left disappointed at missing out on promotion last year but are the early frontrunners in this year’s Championship thanks to two straight victories. Having started the campaign with the breathtaking demolition of Hudderfield, the Cherries followed that up with Saturday’s triumph over Brentford.

Including last week’s Capital One Cup match, the Cherries have won three on the spin without conceding. Whilst they may well continue their 100% winning start against Forest, their defence should expect a much sterner test from the Reds.

Stuart Pearce’s men have scored in all three games this season, hitting two in each of their league outings to secure a return of four points so far. Whilst the trip to Dean Court does signal their hardest challenge of the season to date, the visitors should be confident in adding to their goal tally.

Both head-to-head meetings ended in BTTS winners last term, including a 4-1 home win in the corresponding fixture here. Expect much of the same in Tuesday night’s showdown.

Peterborough United V Sheffield United

BTTS favourites Peterborough formed part of our winning weekend treble and we’re including them once more as they welcome Sheffield United to London Road.

When it comes to goals at both ends, Posh have been one of the most consistent teams for a number of years and the early indications are that they will be once more in 2014/15. Saturday’s 3-2 win over MK Dons is a pretty fair reflection of what to expect from Darren Ferguson’s side and goals should be the theme of the night against the Blades.

Sheffield United may have suffered disappointing defeats to both Bristol City and Coventry City but Nigel Clough’s men will still be expected to be fighting for promotion by May and it would be a surprise not to see them get on the scoreboard here.

Strangely, Peterborough failed to score in either match against the Blades last term but Posh should put that right as they aim to capitalise on a vulnerable away defence. Whether that will be enough to condemn United to a third straight defeat is another question altogether.
